We took the 7AM shuttle up to LaGuardia, which required waking up at 4:45! Although the travel time door to door was fairly similar to taking the train, it required a lot less sitting still, which we were grateful for.
Upon arrival, we took a cab to Queens to see my aunt, had her morning nap and lunch, then took the subway to Manhattan to check into our hotel. We stayed at a really trendy boutique hotel called Cooper Square Hotel. Walking in with my suburban mommy outfit (jeans, tshirt, flip flops), I felt pretty out of place. No black skinny jeans, oversized sun glasses and 5 inch ankle boots?!?!
Our room was small, simply decorated, but very luxurious. Located on the 19th floor, our room had a fantastic view of lower Manhattan. There was a fully stocked mini fridge located in the side of the armoire. They provided 3 different robes in 3 different fabrics (towel, terry and silk). The walk in shower had a rain forest shower head and a steamer! There's NOTHING has wonderful has taking 5 minutes to relax in the shower with a steamer going full blast.
The hotel is located in the East Village, a wonderfully diverse and exciting area of Manhattan with lots of restaurants and night life. My aunt graciously offered to babysit Ellie while Dave, my cousin Jonathan and I went got late night yakitori snacks at Village Yokocho. Being so suburban, it was very exciting to be eating out late in New York city.
