Trip to Switzerland - Highlights

|
At the end of June, we had the wonderful opportunity to go back to Swtizerland to visit with my mother.

Some of our good friends had suggested that we buy Ellie her own seat on the flight, but being the "cheap-os" that we are, we couldn't justify the $600 price difference, and opted to have her sit on our laps. Prior to the trip, I had many anxious moments, fearing the "worst case scenario" for our 8 hour flight trips back and forth. How was she going to behave? Would she cry? How and what were we going to feed her? How was I going to pump on the plane!?!??! I must have read every website out there with tips and tricks for traveling with young babies.

By God's grace, both flights went well. We were not "the couple with the screaming child".

Our flight over departed at 6 PM, so we were hoping that after take off, we'd feed her and she'd fall asleep, but Ellie had other plans. Not only was she busy charming everyone who walked by our row, she was also enthralled by the tvs. We finally gave her some Benadryl and she slept for 3 hours! We had taken our Boppy with us for her to sleep on (thanks for the tip Soph), so she was able to rest her head on the Boppy and lay over both our laps. I think Dave and I might have dozed off for 1 hour maximum. Sitting still in a small airplane seat with a 20 pound child on your lap is quite uncomfortable.

We took turns eating, using the rest room, taking breaks from our extremely enthusiastic child, and made it to Geneva exhausted, but in decent shape.

Our visit with my mother was wonderful. We spent a lot of time relaxing in her home, visiting friends and eating.

We were able to fit in many of my favorites including fondue, Brasserie Lipp in old town Geneva, Malakoff (fried cheese balls - a specialty from the canton of Vaud where I'm from), and the "Tête-à-Tête" at Movenpick, a 7 scoop sundae of the best ice cream I've ever eaten.

One other highlight of our trip was our mini vacation to my mom's condo in the mountains located an hour and a half away from Geneva. Her condo is brand new, with an extremely modern kitchen and bathrooms, yet still has the rustic charm of a mountain chalet. We hiked, ate, relaxed, watched movies, ate some more and enjoyed the spectacular view from her living room.
